INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team travels to Eastern Illinois for the 2015 season-opener this Friday (Nov. 13) with tipoff cued up for 7 p.m..

IUPUI has a 3-4 all-time record against EIU. The Jags bested the Panthers last year in a 66-44 home win in a game where the IUPUI bench contributed 39 points. Sophomore Jenna Gunn clocked in a solid day against EIU last year as she went for 12 points and a team-high nine boards.

IUPUI enters this year's opener following a 70-61 exhibition victory over St. Joseph's College in The Jungle last Wednesday (Nov. 4). Senior star Akilah Sims led the way with 23 points on 10-for-15 shooting to go along with five rebounds.

Sims looks to jumpstart the Jags' offense this season. She returns to the court following a year with 11.1 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native was a preseason First-Team All-Summit League selection.

Head Coach Austin Parkinson's 2015-16 group looks slightly different from a season ago. The Jags take the court this season with three newcomers, including a freshman guard in Sydney Hall. Hall racked up eight points, four assists and three boards in the Jags' exhibition.

Parkinson and his staff are also expecting big things from junior center Mikale Rogers. Rogers played well last season, averaging 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, but she's elevated her game to another level. The Indianapolis native went for 10 points and seven rebounds in just 17 minutes played in the Jags' exhibition game.

IUPUI preps for a Panthers squad that went 10-20 (7-9) last year and graduated their top two scorers from a year ago. Sabina Oroszova averaged 15.7 points per game while Amisha Thomas added 9.7 per contest. Both have departed.

IUPUI returns to the court following a 15-16 (9-7) season. Friday's game will take place at Lantz Arena in Charleston, Ill. as part one of a two-game road trip. The Jags will travel to Marquette for a 1 p.m. contest on Monday (Nov. 16) before returning to Indy for the home opener with VCU (Nov. 21).
