SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - IUPUI senior men's golfer Rob van de Vin capped his second career NCAA Regional appearance on Saturday (May 17) with a final round 85 at Rich Harvest Farms in suburban Chicago. The Netherlands-native finished the tournament tied for 64th among the 75-player field at 243 (83-75-85).

Illinois' Brian Campbell, ranked No. 48 nationally, won the regional tournament at 5-under 211 while the Fighting Illini claimed team honors at 16-over 880. UAB, Purdue, USC and California also advance from the regional on to the NCAA Championships.

van de Vin's round got derailed early on Saturday as he was 8-over after his first seven holes, even after making par on his first hole of the day. He made a slight move with an eagle on the par-5 No. 2, followed by a birdie on the par-3 No. 3, but followed with back-to-back big numbers on 4 and 5. He finished the day going par-par-double bogey-par on his final four holes.

"I just didn't hit my ball well at all," van de Vin said. "My rhythm was off all day. I was overshaping most of my shots and that got me in trouble a lot."

van de Vin's eagle came on the heels of drilling a long 4-iron onto the green and his birdie came when he holed out from a green side bunker.

"It was an absolutely great golf course and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to get out of regionals, but I enjoyed the experience."

van de Vin finishes his IUPUI career as one of just a handful of players to have played in multiple NCAA Regionals. He is the lone contributor to graduate from this year's men's golf roster as the Jaguars are expected to return the bulk of this year's roster in 2014-15.

"I would like to thank everyone from IUPUI that contributed to my experience," van de Vin said. "From Coach to the administration, I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's been one of the best experiences of my life."
