INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After splitting their double-header in Chicago, the Jaguars (4-16, 1-1) are back in action this Thursday (Apr. 10) at Omaha (6-12, 1-2). The match will be the first of three in conference this weekend. After Omaha, they'll travel to Denver to take on the Pioneers (7-10, 2-0) followed by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (14-6, 1-1).
IUPUI and Omaha share similar records and each have one win in conference so far, against Western Illinois, but Omaha's came back in February. IUPUI and Omaha last met last April in Fort Wayne with IUPUI taking the match 6-1.
Jason Jaruvang had a strong showing, winning his No. 3 doubles match 8-3. He fell behind early at No. 1 singles with a tiebreak loss in the first set, but rallied for a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-2 win.
After their match in Omaha on Thursday, the Jaguars will travel to Denver for two matches in two days against the Pioneers and Jackrabbits. The Pioneers have been the favorites all season to win the conference and will provide the Jaguars their stiffest conference test. The Pioneers have struggled out of conference, with a 7-10 overall record. They've been ranked as high as 52nd in the country this season, following a 5-2 win over 49th BYU, but have faded as the season wears on. They've picked it back up in conference play though, going 2-0 with a pair of 7-0 wins against Omaha and Western Illinois.
The Jaguars' final match of the weekend will pit them against South Dakota State. The Jackrabbits have a much stronger non-conference record than Omaha and Denver, although Denver has played a much tougher schedule, but have split their two conference matches against IPFW and Western Illinois. The Jackrabbits and Jaguars have similar records against common opponents, but the Jackrabbits won the match over the Jaguars last year 4-3.
IUPUI's match with Omaha will begin Thursday at noon ET.
