INDIANAPOLIS – The women's tennis team will host DePauw today at West Indy Racquet Club in their final home match and regular season finale.
The teams haven't faced each other since the Butler Invitational in September 2011, and haven't played a dual match with any of the current players. DePauw has had strong season so far, winning 14 of 18 matches and winning as many as six in a row in March, but it will be difficult for the D-III program coming to IUPUI.
IUPUI hasn't had a ton of success this season, although they've been much improved over the last half. They won back-to-back matches to open the month of April and had a strong showing in conference despite losing their last three matches. Each of the final three matches were 4-3 losses.
Individually, the Jaguars have shown even more improvement over the last half of the season. Through February, no player had more than one singles win. Including their win over Dayton on March 1,
Bobbi Modesto has gone 7-7,
Rachel Swartwood has gone 5-3 including a four-match win streak, and
Vanessa Whyte,
Abbey Neff and
Julie Brockman have each reached five wins.
The Jaguars should have confidence coming into today's match after such a competitive weekend in conference. Their 6-1 win earlier in the season over Marian, another school not in division-I, should also provide a boost.
