INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Jaguars went into Muncie looking to bounce back from their 0-2 finish in conference play. Instead they lost for the third time in five days, 6-1 to Ball State.
IUPUI got off to a good start with a win at No. 3 doubles from
Jason Jaruvang and
Akshay Verma.
Thomas Gans and
Jacob Bradley swapped spots with the No. 1 doubles pair and had an opportunity to get the Jaguars on the board with the doubles point. Tied 7-7, they headed to a tiebreak but fell short. Ball State took the No. 2 doubles match as well, giving them the opening point.
There wasn't much more success in singles for the Jaguars. Jaruvang recorded his 10th singles win of the spring with his 6-3, 6-1 result at No. 1 singles. The match was also his third win in three tries against Ball State opponents this year, including the Ball State Invitational in October.
None of the other IUPUI players were able to get a win though.
Alex Toliver, Bradley, Gans and
Manuel Laboy each were defeated in straight sets. Verma forced a third set with a long 11-9 tiebreak win, but fell short in the third-set super tiebreak.
At 5-19 so far, the Jaguars have one match left before the Summit League Tournament begins in Denver. They'll travel to Detroit this Saturday for the season finale against the Titans.
