JAGS HEAD TO CHICAGO TO FACE DEPAUL

The winner of Saturday's match will earn their 3rd win of the season

3/7/2014 2:30:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS – After IUPUI's ninth loss in a row, the Jaguars will head to Chicago to take on DePaul this Saturday (Mar. 8).

The match comes one week after a 4-3 loss to Dayton and was the second leg of a double-header that the men's and women's teams played against Dayton. IUPUI had defeated Dayton the previous season by the same score and needed to win just one of three third-set singles matches to take the match, but came up short in all three.

Jason Jaruvang's play against Dayton was the highlight of the match. Along with his doubles partner Manuel Laboy, Jaruvang won his doubles match 8-4. He also took down Dayton's Aidan Koross at No. 1 singles in a quick 6-1, 6-2 contest. His play against Dayton earned him Summit League Player of the Week honors for the second time in his career at IUPUI.

The men's team will travel to Chicago Saturday but have only the match on their minds.

"We are excited about the opportunity to travel to Chicago this weekend and compete against DePaul.," said head coach Brandon Currie. "Chicago is a great city with a lot going on, but our main objective is to be ready to compete against the Blue Demons on Saturday night."

Saturday's match with DePaul won't be the first time these two teams have played. IUPUI took the doubles point in their match last April, but get swept in singles for a 6-1 defeat.

Both teams have struggled this year and have just two wins on the season, although IUPUI has played four more matches. Three of DePaul's losses have come to nationally-ranked teams.

Saturday's match with DePaul will being at 7 p.m.
