INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - In the first of two matches this weekend the Jaguars (2-6) came up short in Cincinnati, losing 6-1 to Xavier. It was IUPUI's third straight loss to Xavier (3-5) and third in a row overall.
Thomas Gans won at the No. 4 singles spot to score IUPUI's lone point. His was one of three tight singles matches and it bumped his singles record to 5-3 this year, best on the team.
Jason Jaruvang also played a close three-setter swapping 6-3 sets before falling 10-5 in the super tiebreaker.
Alex Toliver played two very close sets, but couldn't get over the top and fell 7-5, 7-6 (4). After a 3-0 start to the season, Toliver has fallen back to .500 at 4-4.
After a quick break from the lineup,
Akshay Verma took back his No. 6 singles spot from
Rudolph Frazier, but the result remained the same and Verma fell 6-3, 6-2.
The Jaguars will continue play Sunday (Feb. 9) in Indianapolis, although they won't enjoy home-court advantage. Instead, they'll face UIndy at the UIndy Tennis Center. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
