INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After losses to both nationally ranked Purdue and Northern Illinois last weekend, the Jaguars have now lost six straight matches. With both Toledo and Butler on the schedule this weekend, they'll have two opportunities to end the streak.
The Jaguars played Toledo early last season with three current players starting.
Jason Jaruvang,
Thomas Gans and
Jacob Bradley each lost in singles and Toledo won 6-1. Bradley was leading 5-4 in his No. 2 doubles matchup, but the match did not finish since the doubles point was already clinched.
Toledo began the season with a six-match losing streak but currently is 4-8. Before facing IUPUI, they still have two matches remaining including one with Butler. They also share two common opponents with IUPUI. Both IUPUI and Toledo lost 6-1 to Purdue and both lost to Green Bay, although IUPUI's match was much closer, 4-3 compared to 6-1.
Butler beat IUPUI 4-3 last year to end a small two-match win streak by the Jaguars. IUPUI had won the previous two meetings 6-1 and 4-3.
Including Butler's match with Toledo, the Bulldogs have two matches before their contest with the Jaguars. Currently they are 5-2 having lost their most recent match, but previously won five consecutive matches.
Saturday's (Feb. 22) match with Toledo will begin at 7 p.m. at West Indy Racquet Club (immediately following the women's tennis team's match with Xavier). Sunday's match against Butler will also be a home match, although it will be played at Five Seasons in Carmel. The match with Butler will begin at noon.
