INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The schedule will get much tougher this weekend for the Jaguars. They'll travel to West Lafayette to face No. 75 Purdue (2-1) on Saturday (Feb. 15) before taking on Northern Illinois (6-2) on Sunday (Feb. 16).
Purdue's 2-1 record could be misleading; two of their three opponents this season are nationally ranked. They lost 6-1 at No. 7 Baylor before rebounding with a 6-1 win at No. 64 Arkansas this past Sunday.
Northern Illinois also carries an impressive resume. They won six consecutive matches dropping only three total points along the way before having their streak broken up in a 5-2 loss at No. 57 Indiana.
The Jaguars faced both schools last year. They lost at West Lafayette 7-0 and at home to Northern Illinois 5-2.
Jason Jaruvang, the likely starter at No. 1 singles, started both matches at No. 1 last year and dropped both in straight sets. The good news is he still set the school record for wins in a season (28) and has a year under his belt now.
Alex Toliver has also been a great addition to the team this year and shares the team lead in singles wins with five with
Thomas Gans. Both are 5-4 in the spring.
Saturday's match against Purdue will begin at 10 a.m. and Sunday's against Northern Illinois will start at 11 a.m.
