INDIANAPOLIS - Prior to heading to California this weekend, the IUPUI women's basketball team returns to action at The Jungle on Tuesday night when it hosts SIU-Edwardsville at 7 p.m.

Tuesday's meeting will be the first all-time between the two schools and it will be the Jags only home contest until Dec. 4 when it hosts Indiana State in a regionally-televised match-up.

"We are looking forward to getting back home and playing in The Jungle.I felt like we took positive steps at Michigan State and hope we can build on that," head coach Austin Parkinson said. "SIUE is an athletic team that has had a lot of success attacking the rim."

The Cougars are 2-2 on the season after winning their last two games against Drake and Air Force. SIUE has three players scoring in double figures led by freshman Gwen Adams' 12.5 ppg. Joining Adams in double figures are Shronda Butts and Tierny Austin, who average 12.3 ppg and 11.3 ppg, respectively.

The Jaguars are coming off a tough road loss at #15/17 Michigan State on Sunday - a game in which the Jags were within eight points with seven minutes remaining. However, the Spartans used a late 12-0 run to pull away helping them finish off the 19-point win.

Despite the loss, IUPUI hung with nationally-ranked Michigan State on the glass thanks in part to 10 rebounds from Shanika Maddox, who now leads the squad averaging seven rebounds per game.

Offensively, the Jaguars are collectively shooting 45.2 percent from the floor while holding their opponents to 38.5 percent shooting, but turnovers have been their Achilles heel. IUPUI has committed 67 turnovers through three games compared to just 15.7 for its opponents, and it was something Parkinson talked about following the Michigan State loss.

"Until we get our turnovers under control, we will continue to struggle on the offensive end," Parkinson said after Sunday's game.

Even though turnovers have been a problem, seven different players are averaging over 5.0 ppg for IUPUI led by Shaquira Scott and Akilah Sims' 9.5 ppg average.

Tickets for Tuesday's contest are $7 for adults and $4 for youth ages 12 and under. Parking information can be found at www.parking.iupui.edu.
