INDIANAPOLIS - Playing in cool, rainy conditions, the IUPUI women's golf team turned in a first round 307 at the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Country Club on Monday morning (Oct. 6). Host Butler leads the nine-team field at 293 and Youngstown State is second at 303. Western Kentucky and Cleveland State are tied for third at 306, one shot ahead of the Jaguars.

Freshman Aneta Abrahamova paced the Jags with a 5-over 75 and is tied for eighth among the 58-player field. Sophomores Erin Ingram and MeKenzie Hilsmeyer are both tied for 12th after 6-over 76's.

"Aneta played well for a really long time today," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "She's a really good player and she's going to continue to get better.

"Overall, I thought the girls did okay. MeKenzie's getting better and Erin Ingram is getting better. They're both improving a lot. We need Sara to continue to become the player we know she can be and we need to get more consistent scores from Nicole, similar to what she was shooting all summer. I don't think she shot an 82 all summer, but for whatever reason, she hasn't put it all together yet this fall. It'll come, but she's not there yet."

Freshman Sara Saetre carded a 10-over 80 and Nicole Toledano shot 12-over 82. The duo is tied for 24th and 32nd, respectively. Freshman AnneMarie Balsbaugh made her collegiate debut with an opening round 95 while playing as an individual.

"It's pretty cool to see someone play their first college tournament," Andrews said. "It was really cool to see AnneMarie out there playing for the first time today.

"I tip my cap to Butler, they played really well today. That's a pretty good score they put up today, so I give them credit."

Tuesday's final round is expected to start with an 8:30 shotgun start.
