-
Last season, the Penguins snapped the Jaguars three-game winning streak in the series when they eked out a 58-57 win in Indianapolis.
-
IUPUI is 1-2 against Youngstown State when playing in Youngstown, with its only win coming by an 89-87 margin in overtime on Jan. 27, 2001.
LAST TIME OUT ...
-
Mikale Rogers come off the bench and recorded her first career double-double leading IUPUI to a 92-63 victory over IU-Southeast Monday evening at The Jungle.
-
The Jaguars dominated action inside with its five post players combining to score 73 of their 92 points led by Rogers' career-high 24 points. Nevena Markovic scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half after playing just four minutes in the first half, while Akilah Sims and Jordan Barton added 16 points and 10 points, respectively.
-
The Jags also controlled the glass against the smaller Grenadiers. Led by Rogers career-high 10 rebounds, the Jags more than doubled IU-Southeast on the backboards, 45-22.
-
The Grenadiers started strong hitting four of their first six shots to take a 14-10 lead, but six straight points from Rogers put IUPUI on top, 16-14, by the second media timeout.
-
Just as the Jags took the lead, the hot shooting continued for IU-Southeast catapulting it in front, 28-22, with 7:14 to go.
-
The IU-Southeast lead remained at five, 29-24, before two Shanika Maddox baskets started a 16-4 run that carried into the half. During the run, Sims scored six points and DeAirra Goss scored four helping the Jags take a 40-33 advantage into halftime.
-
After playing just four minutes in the first half due to two personal fouls, Markovic didn't waste much time making an impact in the second half scoring six points in the first 1:50 to boost the Jaguars lead to 46-33 while forcing the Grenadiers to use a timeout.
-
A Goss jumper out of the timeout upped the cushion to 15 points, 48-33, but an 11-2 Grenadiers response brought them within six, 50-44, with 14:00 to go.
-
Two Sims free throws, a Rogers bucket and two more free throws from Goss pushed the IUPUI lead back to double digits, 56-44, with 12:37 on the clock, and from that point the Jags did not allow their lead to dip below double figures.
-
Over the final 10 minutes, the Jaguars lead continued to grow and they eventually pulled out a 92-63 win over the Grenadiers.
POST PRESENCE
-
In IUPUI's 29-point win over IU-Southeast on Dec. 30, the Jaguars post players - Nevena Markovic, Akilah Sims, Mikale Rogers, Shanika Maddox and Jordan Barton - accounted for 79.3 percent of IUPUI's scoring (73 of 92 points).
-
In that game, those five combined to score those 73 points on 70.3% shooting from the floor (26-of-37).
-
On the season, four of the Jags top six scorers come from the post. Markovic is second on the team averaging 11.1 ppg, followed by Sims and her 8.6 ppg. Rogers and Maddox are both in their first seasons with IUPUI and they are chipping in 6.9 ppg and 5.4 ppg, respectively.
-
Part of the reason for their success has been their ability to finish around the rim. Markovic, Sims, Rogers and Maddox have all attempted at least 60 shots this season and all of them are shooting above 47.0% from the floor, led by Maddox's 55.6% shooting.
CAPITALIZING AT THE STRIPE
-
Coming into Monday's game vs. IU-Southeast, the Jaguars were struggling at the free throw line shooting 63.6% on the season.
-
However, the Jags reversed that trend against the Grenadiers helping them outscore IU-Southeast by 21 points at the free throw line.
-
Against IU-Southeast, IUPUI connected on 31-of-37 from the charity stripe, led by Akilah Sims' perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the line.
-
The 31 made free throws marked the most made free throws for the Jags since burying 31 against Bowling Green on Dec. 22, 2003.
CLEANING UP THE GLASS
-
Over the last four games, IUPUI has been dominant on the glass despite posting just a 2-2 record.
-
Since its Dec. 15 game against Indiana, the Jags have outrebounded their opponent by an average of 15.8 rebounds per game.
-
The Jags started this streak by outrebounding Indiana by nine, before outrebounding Northern Kentucky by 12 and Northwestern by 19. That number continued to go up against IU-Southeast as the Jaguars outrebounded the Grenadiers by 23.
-
IUPUI is averaging 43.2 rpg during this stretch compared to just 27.5 rpg for its opponents, and they have been led by Nevena Markovic's 8.3 rpg.
-
Part of the reason for the Jaguars dominance on the glass has been its ability to corral offensive rebounds. IUPUI is averaging 18.3 offensive rebounds per game since Dec. 15, resulting in 12.8 second-chance points per game.
-
Six players are averaging at least 2.0 offensive rebounds per game since the game against Indiana.
DOUBLE UP
-
In IUPUI's 11-point loss at Northwestern on Dec. 21, Nevena Markovic controlled the action on both ends of the floor.
-
The Wheaton, Ill.-native, who was playing close to home, scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds against the Wildcats.
-
That marked her second double-double this season, following up a 14-point, 10-rebound effort at Indiana State on Dec. 9.
-
The 17 rebounds by Markovic marked the most rebounds by a Jaguar player in over five years and it was the first time since Feb. 16, 2008, that an IUPUI player had 17 rebounds in a game.
-
That night, Jernisha Cann, IUPUI's all-time leading rebounder, had 17 against Oral Roberts.
-
In the next outing against IU-Southeast, Mikale Rogers collected her first career double-double scoring a career-high 24 points and grabbing a career-best 10 rebounds.
-
A double-double by an IUPUI player against Youngstown State would mark the first time since the 2008-09 season that the Jags would have a player post a double-double in three straight games.
