-
However, this past week in a pair of wins over Denver and South Dakota, Haley Seibert paced the Mastodons in scoring averaging 29.5 ppg on 67 percent shooting from the field. Her scoring average for the week was 14.4 ppg higher than her season average.
-

-
The 'Dons also rank first in the conference in field goal percentage (.469), free throw percentage (.766), 3-point field goal percentage (.389) and 3-point field goals made per game (9.0). Their field goal percentage ranks 10th nationally.
THE SERIES WITH THE MASTODONS
-
Saturday's meeting will be the 22nd all-time between the two schools with IUPUI holding an 11-10 edge in the series.
-
IPFW won five straight meetings from 2010-12, but IUPUI has responded with three consecutive wins, including a series sweep last year.
-
The Jags are 4-6 all-time against the 'Dons in Indianapolis, and have won two straight at home over IPFW.
LAST TIME OUT ...
-
Akilah Sims scored a career-high 18 points and led four double-digit scorers as the IUPUI women's basketball team earned its third consecutive Summit League victory with an 82-66 win over Denver Saturday afternoon at The Jungle.
-
IUPUI (13-6; 3-1 Summit) shot 60.0 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 12-point lead into halftime, but connected on just 29.2 percent of its attempts in the second half despite holding on for the 16-point win. The Jags offset their poor shooting in the second half by hitting 18-of-27 free throws and managed to outscore Denver by 10 points from the line during the second 20 minutes.
-
DeAirra Goss, Nicole Rogers and Katie Comello joined Sims in double figures with Goss scoring 16 points, Rogers adding 13 and Comello chipping in 10 off the bench. However, it was Sims who made an impact inside scoring 10 of her 18 points in the paint helping the Jaguars outscore the Pioneers 32-20 inside.
-
Rogers and Goss each hit their first three shots from the floor, which included two three's from Rogers, and the Jags collectively hit eight of their first 10 attempts from the field as they sprinted out to a 19-14 lead nearly six minutes in.
-
The fast-paced action continued, but the scoring pace slowed a bit as both defenses made some adjustments. Denver closed within three at 26-23 on a Theresa Wirth three with 9:31 to play, but a 10-3 IUPUI spurt from the 8:18 mark to the 5:54 mark pushed its lead to double figures, 36-26.
-
Once the lead reached double figures, Wirth scored six straight points, including four from the free throw line, to bring the Pioneers within four with 4:10 to go, but a 13-5 run to close the half gave the Jaguars a 49-37 advantage heading into halftime.
-
Out of the half, six fouls and three turnovers allowed Denver to close within nine, 54-45, by the first media timeout, and the Jags poor shooting did not allow them to extend their lead past 13 resulting in the Pioneers being able to stay within striking distance.
-
Denver managed to chip away at its deficit and a Wirth driving lay-up with 9:11 to play trimmed the IUPUI lead to seven, 62-55, forcing Parkinson to use his first timeout of the half to regroup his team.
-
Neither team scored for nearly two and a half minutes until Nevena Markovic fought through contact to get a tough lay-up to fall, before hitting two free throws on IUPUI's next possession to boost that lead back to nine, 66-57.
-
IUPUI hit 4-of-6 from the line in the next 2:22 to move its lead to 13, 70-57, and managed to keep its lead in double figures the rest of the way as it eventually finished off an 82-66 win.
GOSS NAMED SUMMIT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
-
For the first time in her career, senior guard DeAirra Goss was named one of the Summit League's Women's Basketball Players of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
-
Goss shared the honor with IPFW guard Haley Seibert, after both IUPUI and IPFW earned conference wins over South Dakota and Denver.
-
Goss led IUPUI in scoring for the week averaging 21.5 ppg, 9.3 ppg higher than her season average. Goss also averaged 4.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, and had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.0.
-
The Indianapolis-native started the week connecting on a career-high 11 field goals en route to a career-high 27 points in a 21-point victory over South Dakota. She followed that performance with a 16-point, five-rebound effort in a 16 point victory over Denver.
-
Goss also performed well on the defensive end of the floor holding South Dakota's Nicole Seekamp, who averaged 15.1 ppg entering the week, scoreless in 22 minutes of action.
OFFENSIVE EXECUTION
-
Offensively, the Jags have used a balanced scoring attack this season with five players averaging over 7.0 ppg.
-
However, the most impressive thing about IUPUI's offensive attack this season has been its ability to consistently score at a high percentage from the floor.
-
The Jaguars are shooting 45.0 percent as a team this season, which as of Jan. 20 ranked 29th nationally.
-
IUPUI has five players shooting over 45.0 percent from the field this season led by Shanika Maddox's 56.5 % clip (48-of-85).
-
Not only are the Jags shooting at a higher percentage than their opponents - 45.0 to 41.3 - but they are doing it while attempting 127 more shots than their opponents through 19 games.
-
One key reason for IUPUI's high shooting percentage has been its ability to capitalize inside. The Jags average 35.5 ppg in the paint this season, and they are 13-2 when scoring at least 30 points in the paint. On the other hand, they are holding their opponents to just 26.1 ppg in the paint.
