FARGO, N.D. – For the first time in seven tries, the IUPUI women's basketball team left Bison Sports Arena with a victory as the Jags defeated North Dakota State, 71-46, Saturday afternoon.

Three players scored in double figures led by Mikale Rogers' 16 points as the Jags managed to put together a wire-to-wire victory to even their Summit League record at 1-1 following a hard-fought six-point loss in their Summit League opener at South Dakota State on Thursday.

"I'm really proud of our kids for bouncing back in a big way," head coach Austin Parkinson said. "Right from the jump our kids were focused on doing the little things it takes to win on the road. It was nice to see Mikale and Shanika give us a boost off the bench as well."

After shooting below its season average in three of its last four games, IUPUI returned to its old form in the first half shooting 48.4 percent from the field thanks in part to the outside shooting of Nicole Rogers. Rogers buried four three's in the first six minutes of action helping the Jaguars claim a 17-6 lead, and her effectiveness from behind-the-arc opened the driving lanes providing some easy looks for the rest of the half.

"Nicole really got us going with those early three's, which was huge for her confidence," Parkinson added.

Four consecutive points from Mikale Rogers and a three from Dawn Luster pushed the Jags advantage to 26-10 as the midway point of the first half neared, but the lead moved to 17 after Nevena Markovic hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line with 5:11 on the clock.

North Dakota State trimmed its deficit to 14, 37-23, with 23 seconds to play in the first half and IUPUI looked like it would go into the half with that 14-point lead after turning the ball over with 1.8 seconds to play. However, North Dakota State went for the long pass off the inbounds from underneath the Jags basket to try and get one last score. The ball went out of bounds on the other end of the floor without being touched, giving the Jaguars the ball underneath their own basket without any time going off the clock. They took advantage executing a perfect inbounds play to Markovic and she scored with one second to go in the half upping the IUPUI lead to 39-23 entering halftime.

Following a solid offensive first half, the first 2:30 of the second half were filled with missed shots and turnovers giving the Bison an opportunity to cut their deficit into single digits. Following a Parkinson timeout, IUPUI got back on track using a driving lay-up from DeAirra Goss and a lay-up from Markovic off a lob from Dee-Dee Bellamy to re-establish a 16-point lead, 43-27, at the first media timeout of the second half.

Later, an old-fashioned three-point play from Goss with 13:27 to play started a 17-5 run over the next 5:25 that ballooned the Jags lead to 62-36 with 8:02 to play.

The rest of the way, the Jags lead never fell below 20 and they ultimately came away with a 71-46 win.

The Jaguars finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor, 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three, and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the line - their fourth straight game shooting 75 percent or better from the free throw line.

IUPUI resumes Summit League action when it hosts South Dakota on Thursday, Jan. 16, in its conference home opener. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at The Jungle and Morgan Adcock will have the call on IUPUIJags.com.
