COLUMBIA, Mo. - Playing for the fourth time in as many days, the IUPUI men's golf team capped a stretch of six rounds in 96 hours with an 11th place finish at this week's COG Mizzou Intercollegiate at The Club at Old Hawthorne. The Jaguars shot a final round 312 to finish the 54-hole event at 920 (297-311-312).

Host Missouri dominated the field, shooting a 12-under 852 to win the tournament by 19 shots. Austin Peay (871), Washington State (872), Cal Poly (875) and Utah Valley (887) rounded out the top five.

"The conditions were a little tougher today," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "The wind was blowing a little bit more today than it was yesterday.

"All that said, we've got work to do. We've got a couple more tournaments between now and conference and we've got some work to do to get to where we want to be."

Sophomore Santiago Ruiz carded a final round 4-over 76 to finish at 233 (77-80-76) to highlight Tuesday's effort. The Colombia-native continued to torch the par-5, 10th on Tuesday, firing an eagle to finish at 4-under on the 530-yard hole for the tournament.

"Santi's got to quit starting slow," Andrews said. "I have the same problem, but we're going to work on it. Maybe it's hit a little longer on the range beforehand and visualize a few holes before his first tee. We're going to work on it though and he knows it."

Classmate Cole Adams was IUPUI's top finisher at 8-over 224 (70-75-79), tying for 31st among the 66-player field. Adams was even through seven holes on Tuesday, but a stretch of double bogey-bogey-par-bogey-bogey over his next five holes sent him to a 7-over 79.

"Cole played pretty well," Andrews said. "I know he would've liked to score better today, but he played pretty well. He's hitting the driver well and playing more consistent. We can live with the bad shots but we've got to get rid of the dumb ones. Everyone hits bad shots - that's part of it. He just needs to eliminate the dumb ones and he'll score much better.

"He's just more comfortable this year and is confident in his game and that he can compete at this level."

Junior Rob van de Vin closed at 233 (72-81-77) and freshman Jay Holderman finished at 240 (78-82-80). van de Vin finished the tournament with seven birdies, including making three on Tuesday. Holderman was consistent through the first eight holes of his final round, but struggled late with back-to-back double bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11.

"Jay didn't close very well. He's very capable though," Andrews said. "He just needs to get some experience. Summer golf could really help him. He, Bryce (Very) and Tyler (Davis) could all benefit from summer amateur golf. That way, they can get used to playing longer, tougher courses.

"Rob needs to play better. He's an incredibly talented player. He's just got to tee it up and start competing to win golf tournaments. He'd tell you that too. He's good enough to consistently compete to win tournaments."

Freshman Austin Winings rounded out the Jaguars' lineup at 241 (82-75-84).

"Austin just keeps looking really frustrated," Andrews said. "I saw him hit some good shots. He just looks the part and looks like a player that can consistently shoot even par."

Austin Peay's Dustin Korte captured medalist honors at 211 while a group of three, including two Missouri players, tied for second at 212.

The Jaguars will return to action next week when they take part in the Kemper Sports Intercollegiate, hosted by Northwestern at The Glen Club in Glenville, Ill.. The 14-team field will include Northwestern, Ohio State, Marquette, St. John's, DePaul, Loyola (Ill.), Bradley, Illinois State, Western Illinois, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Dayton. The 54-hole event will start with a 10:00 a.m. Eastern shotgun start on Monday (Apr. 15), followed by Tuesday's final round starting at 9 Eastern.
