CHICAGO – Looking for its third win this week, the IUPUI men's tennis team jumped out to an early lead at DePaul, but the Blue Demons rallied for a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
 
The loss dropped IUPUI to 4-16 on the season, while DePaul upped its record to 5-15 overall and 4-1 when playing at home.
 
Out of the gates, IUPUI was impressive in doubles with Nick Volz and Jacob Bradley claiming an 8-5 win at the top position, before Patrick O'Neill and Deon Shafer won by the same score at the second spot to clinch the point. The tightest of the three doubles contests was at the third and final position, but the Jaguars were able to eke out an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker to complete the sweep.
 
Unfortunately for the Jags, DePaul came out in singles play and controlled the action. Coming into the day, Jason Jaruvang had won eight of his last nine singles matches and he was matched up against the Blue Demon's Filip Dzanko, who had claimed six wins in his last seven singles outings. Dzanko got out to an early lead on Jaruvang and never looked back claiming a 6-2, 6-3 win at the top spot and his teammates followed suit.
 
The remainder of the singles matches all resulted in straight-set wins for DePaul, securing the 6-1 victory.
 
The Jags return to action next weekend when they host their final three home matches of the season at the West Indy Racquet Club. The weekend begins with a meeting against in-state and Summit League rival Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 12, before finishing with matches against Detroit and Western Illinois on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, respectively.
