INDIANAPOLIS – Playing its final home match of the 2013 season, the IUPUI men’s tennis team looked to send its seniors out with a victory, but Summit League rival Western Illinois rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Jaguars Sunday afternoon at West Indy Racquet Club.
With the win, the Leathernecks improved to 2-1 in Summit League action, while IUPUI finished league action with a 2-3 record.
All three doubles matches were close, but the Jags were able to win all three matches and take a one-point lead and all the momentum into singles action.
In singles play, IUPUI received straight-set wins from
Jason Jaruvang and
Deon Shafer at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions to close within one point of the victory.
Unfortunately, Western Illinois rallied and claimed wins at the remaining four singles spots, including a three-set win from Mitch Granger at the fifth position, to complete the come-from-behind victory.
