INDIANAPOLIS – A jam packed weekend is on tap for the IUPUI men’s tennis team this weekend as it welcomes three teams to the West Indy Racquet Club, including a pair of Summit League teams.

The Jaguars kick off the weekend against in-state rival Fort Wayne on Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m., before welcoming Detroit at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. To finish the weekend, IUPUI returns to conference action against Western Illinois on Sunday, April 14, at 10 a.m.

This week’s Summit League match-ups against the Mastodons and the Leathernecks will go a long way in determining who advances to the upcoming Summit League Tournament. All three teams own one league win, but the Jaguars have two losses compared to just one for Western Illinois and none for IPFW.

“We are excited about our matches this upcoming weekend. This is the final weekend for our regular season and we have a chance to make statement at end the year," head coach Brandon Currie said. "We are focusing on one match at a time, but we realize what we are playing for and I believe the team is ready to step up and get the job done. We have dealt with adversity this entire year, and I believe adversity builds character and prepares teams for tough situations.”

Last week, the Jags posted a 2-1 record winning matches against Marian University on April 3, before going on the road to defeat Omaha on April 5 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The road trip did not end the way IUPUI would have liked falling 6-1 to DePaul, but the Jags clearly saw improved doubles play throughout the week posting a perfect 9-0 record in doubles matches.

Sunday’s match against Western Illinois will serve as Senior Day for the men’s tennis program with four seniors playing their final home match of their careers. Nick Volz, Joel Modesitt, Deon Shafer and Armaan Choudhary will all take the court for the final time in front of the home fans while looking to go out with a victory.
