PEORIA, Ill. – The IUPUI men’s tennis team returned to action on Sunday against Bradley and the Jaguars got off to a strong start winning the doubles point, but the Braves took five of the six singles matches to defeat the Jags, 5-2.
 
The loss dropped IUPUI to 2-12 on the season, while Bradley improved to 7-6.
 
Bradley put itself in a good position to claim the doubles point with an 8-2 win at the No. 2 doubles spot, but the Jags were able to mount a rally. Jake Hedderig and Jason Jaruvang followed up IUPUI’s loss at the second doubles spot with an 8-5 triumph in the third doubles match, before Jacob Bradley and Nick Volz came through with a 9-8 tiebreaker win in the No. 1 doubles match to give the Jags the early advantage.
 
Unfortunately for the Jags, three straight-set wins at the No. 6, No. 5 and No. 3 singles spots put the Braves one point away from victory.
 
That victory came at the fourth spot as Arthur Romanet overcame a first-set win from Armaan Choudhary to earn a three-set win courtesy of 6-3 and 6-1 wins in the second and third sets.
 
Similar to Choudhary, Deon Shafer jumped out to an early lead with a tiebreaker win in the opening set only to have Hamish  Weerasinghe bounce back with 7-5 and 6-1 wins in the second and third sets to complete the come-from-behind win.
 
The lone Jags singles win came from Jaruvang at the top spot. After falling 7-5 in the opening set, Jaruvang reversed the tides with a 7-5 second-set win, before claiming a 6-3 third-set win to secure the Jags only singles win.
 
IUPUI is back in action on Sunday, March 17, when they host Wright State at the West Indy Racquet Club.
