INDIANAPOLIS – After a two-week break from competition, the IUPUI men’s tennis team returns to action on Sunday, March 3, when it heads to nearby Butler University for a pair of matches against Northern Illinois and Butler.
The Jags will take on the Bulldogs at 10 a.m., before meeting the Huskies at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Butler Bubble.
“We have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks and coming off a solid road victory against a good team has us feeling very confident,” head coach
Brandon Currie said. “We have an extremely tough challenge this weekend, but we are looking forward to the opportunity. Both of these programs are two that we are familiar with and look forward to playing every year. Several guys will get an opportunity to compete, which will help us determine our lineup as we move towards the conference season.”
IUPUI last competed on Feb. 16, when it went to Dayton, Ohio, and defeated the Dayton Flyers, 4-3. In that match, all three doubles matches were close but the Jags were able to eke out the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. In singles action, IUPUI received straight-set wins from
Jason Jaruvang and
Louis Sacks, before
Thomas Gans closed out the match with a three-set win.
Butler comes into the weekend with a 5-7 overall record, and it will take on the Huskies at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, before squaring off with the Jags on Sunday. IUPUI has won two consecutive meetings against the crosstown Bulldogs, including a 4-3 victory last season.
Northern Illinois comes to Indianapolis with a 7-3 overall record after splitting a pair of matches last weekend against Green Bay and Western Illinois.
