INDIANAPOLIS – Following a four-match road swing, the IUPUI men’s tennis team returns home on Friday, Feb. 8, when it hosts Saint Louis at Five Seasons Sports Club in Carmel, Ind.
Friday’s match is set to begin at 3 p.m. Following the match against the Billikens, the Jags will head to nearby Muncie, Ind., on Sunday, Feb. 10, to take on Ball State.
Last weekend, the Jaguars were defeated by a pair of Top-35 programs nationally. First, IUPUI dropped a 6-1 decision in Bloomington, Ind., to No. 33 Indiana, before falling, 7-0, to No. 30 Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
“We are coming off a tough weekend against two of the top programs in the nation. We competed well and showed that we are capable of playing at an extremely high level,” head coach
Brandon Currie said. “Several players are now back healthy and ready to go as we move into the middle of the season. I believe we grew up a lot last weekend and moving forward, we are prepared to continue to grow as a team. We face two great teams again this weekend, but we are ready for the challenge and excited about the opportunity.”
Despite the team losses last weekend,
Joel Modesitt was named the Summit League Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after claiming IUPUI’s only point against the Hoosiers and falling in three-sets to Michael Dooley of Notre Dame.
Last season, IUPUI split with Saint Louis and Ball State falling to the Cardinals, 6-1, two weeks prior to defeating the Billikens by that same score in St. Louis, Mo.
