ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA
  • The Coyotes enter the week with a 12-14 overall mark and a 7-6 Summit League record under first-year head coach Amy Williams.
  • After handing IUPUI its last loss back on Jan. 26, the Coyotes have lost four of five games to drop back into a tie for third in the league standings.
  • Nicole Seekamp leads the team in scoring in all games averaging 13.7 ppg, but in conference-only games, Tempestt Wilson is pouring in a team-best 15.4 ppg.
  • South Dakota ranks second in the conference in league-only games in scoring (62.9 ppg), field goal percentage (43.3%), assists (15.5 apg), field goal percentage defense (37.2%) and 3-pt field goal percentage defense (27.6%).
  • In league play, USD commits just 14.0 turnovers per game and owns an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.1.

THE SERIES WITH THE COYOTES
  • Thursday’s meeting between the two schools will be the fourth all-time with South Dakota owning a 2-1 edge in the series.
  • In the last meeting, USD came into The Jungle and defeated IUPUI, 76-56, on Jan. 26.
  • IUPUI is 0-1 when playing in Vermillion, S.D.

LAST TIME OUT ...
  • A 16-3 run to start the second half took a one-point halftime lead and widened it to 14, and IUPUI never looked back as it defeated North Dakota State, 57-40, Saturday afternoon at The Jungle.
  • The win was IUPUI’s fifth in a row as it improved to 16-9 overall and 9-3 in the Summit League, while the Bison fell to 9-17 overall and 5-9 in the conference.
  • Dawn Luster kick started the Jaguars offense in the second half and finished with a team-high tying 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor. Luster also added six assists and two rebounds in the win. Kerah Nelson also reached double digits with 10 points and added a team-best tying seven boards.
  • With the Bison only playing eight players, the Jaguars used their depth to their advantage and outscored the NDSU bench 28-7.
  • Poor shooting plagued both teams in the first half, but 14 IUPUI turnovers kept the Bison within striking distance.
  • North Dakota State took a 9-6 lead eight minutes in before the Jaguars were able to go on a 12-4 run. A Nevena Markovic reverse lay-up with 11:59 to play started the surge and two Rogers triples capped off the spurt leaving IUPUI on top, 18-13, with 3:21 on the clock.
  • However, in the final three minutes, the Jags hit just 1-of-5 field goal attempts and committed three turnovers allowing the Bison to close within one, 20-19, entering halftime courtesy of four Katie Birkel points and two from Liz Keena.
  • The Jaguars came out of the locker room with more intensity and it paid dividends quickly. Fueled by seven points from Luster, the Jags went on a 16-3 run over the first six minutes to push its one-point halftime lead to 14 points, 36-22.
  • Over the next 10 minutes, the Jags were able to execute their offense and convert their free throws as they expanded their lead to 20, 52-32.
  • From that point, the outcome was never in doubt and IUPUI finished off a 57-40 victory.

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS
  • With a win over South Dakota State on Valentine’s Day, the Jaguars closed within a game of the Jackrabbits in the Summit League standings.
  • By claiming the three-point victory, IUPUI became just the second team to earn a regular-season sweep over the Jackrabbits since SDSU joined the Summit League.
  • The only other team to defeat South Dakota State twice in the regular season was Oral Roberts, who accomplished the feat twice.
  • On Feb. 16, a win over North Dakota State moved IUPUI to 11-3 at home this season. The 11 home wins are a Division-I era school-record for most home wins in a season.
  • The Jaguars have now won five straight games, marking the Jaguars longest win streak since winning seven straight games during the 2005-06 campaign.
  • Now with 16 wins on the season, the Jags have posted more wins than they had the previous year in each of Austin Parkinson’s three seasons.
  • One more win would tie the school-record for most wins in a season in the Division-I era.

WINNING STREAK
  • Since suffering a 20-point home loss to South Dakota on Jan. 26, the IUPUI women’s basketball team has reeled off five straight victories.
  • The five-game winning streak is the program’s longest since the 2005-06 season. That season, the Jaguars won seven straight games from Jan. 4, 2006 to Jan. 23, 2006.
  • During this winning streak, the Jags have kept their opponents to less than 50 points three times and their opponents are scoring just 47.0 ppg.
  • Part of the reason for the Jags success has been due to its +12.4 edge on the glass per game.
  • Kerah Nelson is leading the team in scoring and rebounding over the last five games with 11.6 ppg and 7.8 rpg, but the scoring balance has been a huge advantage for IUPUI.
  • Nine players are averaging 3.0 ppg or more during the winning streak.
  • Finally, since the calendar turned to February, IUPUI has held its opponents to just 18.8-percent shooting from three (15-of-80) and 31.1-percent shooting from the floor.
