ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its weekly women's basketball Player of the Week honors today and senior guard
Dee-Dee Bellamy and South Dakota State senior guard Steph Paluch shared the conference's weekly award.
This marks the first time in her career that Bellamy has been named the conference's player of the week.
Bellamy started the week scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting as the Jags earned their first-ever win at Indiana State, the Missouri Valley Conference preseason favorites. She also added five rebounds, four steals and two assists against the Sycamores, and put the Jags ahead for good with a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds.
The Detroit, Mich.-native then followed that with eight points, six rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists in a six-point loss to undefeated Indiana. In addition to her career-high four blocks, Bellamy also held Indiana's Larryn Brooks, the fourth-ranked scorer in the Big Ten, to 2-of-16 shooting from the floor.
For the week, the 5-6 guard averaged 10.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3.5 spg, 2.5 bpg and 2.0 apg, while shooting 44.0 percent from the floor.
Bellamy and the Jags return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18, when they host Northern Kentucky at 5 p.m. in the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader at The Jungle. The men's team is set to take on Nicholls State at 7:30 p.m.
