GREENVILLE, N.C. – The IUPUI women's basketball team overcame a four-point deficit with 90 seconds to play to force overtime, but Cleveland State outscored the Jags 11-4 in overtime leading the Vikings to a 63-56 victory over the Jaguars Saturday evening in the second game of the ECU Thanksgiving Tournament.

The loss dropped the Jags record to 5-3, while Cleveland State improved to 3-3.

IUPUI won the rebounding battle, 44-34, which included 17 offensive rebounds, but 30 turnovers for the Jags proved to be too much to overcome.

"Our kids played really hard for two days, however, it's tough to beat quality opponents when you have 54 turnovers in two games," head coach Austin Parkinson said.

The Jaguars hit three of their first five shots from the floor to get off to a strong start offensively, but six turnovers ensued over the next four minutes allowing Cleveland State to take an 11-7 lead.

With 11:12 to play, Katie Comello came off the bench and 21 seconds later she buried a three to put IUPUI back in front, 12-11. However, a quick 5-0 response from the Vikings catapulted them back in front, 16-12, with 9:10 to play forcing Parkinson to burn a timeout.

Turnovers continued to plague IUPUI as its total rose to 14 with six minutes remaining in the half, but a Dee-Dee Bellamy jumper with five minutes on the clock started an IUPUI run. Following Bellamy's jumper, Nevena Markovic scored five straight points, including an old-fashioned three-point play, to bring the Jaguars within a point, 20-19, with 3:54 to go.

A Mikale Rogers free throw knotted the score at 20-20 44 seconds later, before consecutive baskets from Markovic and Nicole Rogers capped off a 10-0 run and gave IUPUI its biggest lead of the half, 24-20, with 50 seconds to go.

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, the 4:28 second scoring drought for Cleveland State was halted when Kiersten Green hit a triple as the first half came to an end bringing the Vikings within a point, 24-23, entering halftime.

Out of the half, the Jags lead never reached more than five until back-to-back three's from Nicole Rogers and Kelsi Byrd gave IUPUI a 46-36 advantage with 9:10 to go in the game. A Byrd lay-up with 6:53 to play kept the Jags in front by six, 48-42, but a 5:41 scoring drought allowed the Vikings to go on a 10-0 run to take a 52-48 lead.

The drought was broken on a Goss lay-up with 1:12 remaining, and on the other end Goss stole the ball from Cori Coleman, found Sims for a lay-up and a foul with 41 seconds left to tie the score at 52-52. Sims missed the free throw, but a turnover on the other end of the floor from the Vikings gave IUPUI an opportunity for the final shot. With the clock winding down, Goss was called for an offensive foul forcing the game into overtime.

Five points in the first four minutes of overtime from Adesuwa Aideyman led the Vikings to a 59-54 lead with a minute to play. A Bellamy lay-up with 34 seconds to play made the game a one-possession game, but two Imani Gordon free throws at the other end of the floor moved the CSU lead back to five with 23 seconds left. IUPUI didn't score again and the Vikings hit two more free throws to make the final 63-56.

Markovic led IUPUI with 11 points and added seven boards, and Mikale Rogers posted a team-best eight boards in the loss.

The Jaguars return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when they head to Kalamazoo, Mich., to take on Western Michigan at 7 p.m. ET.
