INDIANAPOLIS – Moriah Fair and Kelly Wachtel collectively recorded 28 kills, nearly besting North Dakota State's team total of 31, helping the IUPUI volleyball team extend its Summit League home winning streak to 16 matches with a 3-0 win (25-18 ,25-9, 25-17) over the Bison Friday evening at The Jungle.

Fair led all players with 16 kills and hit .583 for the match, while Wachtel added 12 kills in 17 attempts without making an errors resulting in a .706 hitting percentage. Alexis Meeks distributed 33 assists and registered four of IUPUI's 10 aces on the evening.

"We don't like to start out slow like that, but the girls started taking control of the ball - passing the ball a lot better," head coach Steve Payne said. "We started doing smart things and caused them to make some errors. The main thing is we like to take control of the match, and we took control of those last few points (of the first set) and that helped us a lot."

North Dakota State took control early in the opening set using a three-point run to seize a 12-8 lead, forcing Payne to burn a timeout. The timeout seemed to work as the Jags used a pair of kills each from Fair and Wachtel to rally off nine of the next 12 points as they took a 17-15 cushion. After the score was tied at 17, three kills from Fair, an ace from Meeks and a block from Logan Walling and Wachtel helped IUPUI win eight of the next nine points to take set one, 25-18.

That momentum continued into the second set with IUPUI winning 12 of the first 14 points to quickly open a double-digit lead at 12-2. Leading 18-7, two aces from Meeks, two Wachtel kills and a pair of Fair kills aided a run that allowed the Jaguars to close out the second set, 25-9.

After seven kills in the first set, Fair added six more in the second set helping IUPUI post 31 kills in the first two sets compared to just 18 for the Bison.

Out of the 10-minute break, IUPUI methodically built a 17-9 lead before North Dakota State used its first timeout. After the lead grew to 11 at 21-10, the Bison closed within six at 22-16, but two NDSU errors and a kill down the seam from Fair closed out a 25-17 set-three win.

Defensively, Beth Howard led all players with 11 digs, and Walling collected four total blocks, which moved her into the Top 10 on IUPUI's single-season total blocks chart.

IUPUI closes out its 2013 regular-season tomorrow against South Dakota State at 5 p.m. at The Jungle, which follows the men's basketball game against Southeast Missouri State. A win against the Jackrabbits will not only clinch at least a share of another Summit League regular-season title, but it would send IUPUI's three seniors of Meeks, Fair and Kortni Wright out with a win on Senior Night. IUPUI's three seniors will be honored prior to the start of the match.
