TULSA, Okla. – The ITA All-American Championships started on Saturday, Sept. 28, and the IUPUI men's tennis team had a two members of its team compete at the prestigious tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

Jason Jaruvang and Jake Hedderig represented IUPUI at the event and both competed in the pre-qualifying singles draw, before teaming up in the doubles qualifying bracket.

On Saturday, Jaruvang was paired against Texas A&M's Behzad Minavi. Jaruvang, the reigning Summit League Player of the Year, struggled against Minavi falling, 6-1, 6-2, but Minavi played at a high level and made his way out of the pre-qualifying bracket into the second-round of the qualifying bracket by winning five consecutive matches.

Hedderig earned the Jags lone win of the event thanks to a 6-2, 6-3 win in his first match over Oral Roberts' Gabe Kanelopoulos. The next day in his second-round match against the University of Hawai'i at Manoa's Chas Okamoto, Hedderig started slow falling 6-2 in the first-set, before charging back with a 7-5 win in the second-set tiebreaker to force a third set. However, a 6-0 win in set three from Okamoto ended Hedderig's run in singles.

Two days later, Hedderig and Jaruvang hit the court in the qualifying doubles draw and the duo drew the twosome of Facundo Lugones and Arnau Dachs from TCU. Jaruvang and Hedderig held their own against the Horned Frogs duo, but Lugones and Dachs eventually pulled out an 8-5 victory.
