INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of Summit League wins last weekend over Western Illinois and Omaha evened the IUPUI volleyball team's conference record, and the Jaguars will look to move above .500 in the league on Saturday, Oct. 12, when it welcomes in-state rival IPFW to The Jungle for its annual Breast Cancer Awareness match.

Saturday's tilt between the Jags and Mastodons is set for 5 p.m., and IUPUI will be wearing pink jerseys for the match in support of breast cancer awareness. This year, 100 percent of the monies raised by the Jaguars in conjunction with Saturday's match will go to Ribbon Chicks, a not-for-profit organization founded by former IUPUI volleyball player Jen Mertz Will.

Ribbon Chicks' mission is to assist breast cancer survivors within Northeast Indiana through programs and education, and provide the opportunity for limited financial support while continuing to advocate for young breast cancer patients.

"As far as our pink match for Ribbon Chicks – of course Jen Mertz Will played here and was a player of mine, and she has fought through breast cancer," Payne said. "Her battle hits close to home and we are excited that she is going to be here Saturday. The money that we raise will go directly to her foundation and help the people going through breast cancer up in Fort Wayne."

On the court on Saturday, the top two teams from last season and the top two teams in the Summit League Preseason Poll will square off. Last year, IUPUI won the final match of the regular-season over IPFW to secure its first outright Summit League regular-season title.

Both teams enter Saturday's match with a 2-2 league mark, and the winner will look to stay within striking distance of South Dakota and Denver - both of which own perfect 4-0 conference records.

"The match is going to be a great match – it always is against IPFW. The last time we played them in our gym it was for the conference championship and we won that, so we expect a tough match. IPFW is a good team again this year, so it's going to be a real battle," Payne said.

Two of the top three hitters in the Summit League will be on opposite ends of the court this weekend in IPFW's Emily Spencer and Moriah Fair. Spencer leads the conference in kills at 4.54 kills per set and has recorded nearly three times as many kills as the team's next leading attacker, Kendall Wienkes. Fair is averaging 3.72 kps on the season and is coming off a weekend in which she averaged 5.17 kps and hit .531.

As a team, IUPUI hit .420 last weekend over six sets thanks in part to Kelly Wachtel hitting .588. Wachtel's hitting percentage for the weekend skyrocketed following a 12-0-14 (.857) performance against the Mavericks, which set a new school record for hitting percentage in a three-set match.

All fans are encouraged to wear pink to Saturday's match in support of the volleyball team and Ribbon Chicks.
