INDIANAPOLIS – For the second straight week, the IUPUI men’s tennis team will travel to face a pair of tough opponents as the Jags head to Bloomington, Ind., on Friday, Feb. 1, to take on Indiana, before heading north to South Bend, Ind., to square off against Notre Dame on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Friday's match at Indiana is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match at Notre Dame will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
The Hoosiers are ranked No. 33 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings after being ranked No. 23 last week, while Notre Dame is ranked No. 30 in the latest ITA poll.
“As we move into this weekend we are very excited and aware of the challenge in front of us. We are competing against two of the best programs in the nation this weekend and we have an opportunity to make a statement about our program,” head coach
Brandon Currie said. “This will be the first weekend we have most of our team healthy and that will give us a chance to see how we measure up against two top-level programs in Indiana and Notre Dame.
“We are always excited to compete against quality opponents, and these are more special because they are Indiana institutions. We are looking to continue to grow as a team so that we are playing our best tennis during the conference season. These matchups will definitely show us where we are as a team on a national level and we look forward to it.”
Indiana is 1-4 on the young season with all four of its losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 35 in the latest ITA rankings. The Fighting Irish are 3-2, which includes a win over No. 32 Memphis and a pair of losses to No. 34 Northwestern and No. 27 Harvard.
The Jags took on both the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish last season with IUPUI dropping 7-0 decisions to both teams.
