MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The IUPUI men's tennis team closed out its road trip to Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, but the Jags were unable to leave with a victory dropping a 7-0 decision to UW-Green Bay.
In doubles play, all three matches were tightly contested but the Jags were not able to come out in top in two of the three contests.
Jacob Bradley and
Joel Modesitt competed at the No. 1 spot and fell by a break, 8-6, before
Deon Shafer and
Thomas Gans came up just short in a tiebreaker at the No. 3 position to give the Phoenix the early lead.
Patrick O'Neill and
Jason Jaruvang's match at the No. 2 spot went unfinished despite being tied 7-7.
In singles play, Green Bay carried the momentum from doubles into singles and swept all six matches.
The best performance from the Jags in singles play came from
Deon Shafer. Shafer, battled back from a 6-3 opening-set loss to capture the second set, 6-2. However, in a race to 10 points to decide the third set, Shafer fell short by a score of 10-7.
The Jags continue their road trip next weekend when they take on a pair of talented in-state squads in Indiana and Notre Dame. IUPUI travels down to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Hoosiers on Friday, Feb. 1, before heading north to South Bend, Ind., on Sunday, Feb. 3, to square off against Notre Dame.
