INDIANAPOLIS – After spending its opening weekend of the spring season on the road last weekend, the IUPUI men’s tennis team begins its home schedule on Friday, Jan. 18, when it hosts SIU-Edwardsville at 11:30 a.m. at the West Indy Racquet Club.
Friday’s match will be the first of two Jags matches that day against SIU-Edwardsville at West Indy Racquet Club, as the women’s team will take on the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Following Friday’s match against SIU-Edwardsville, the Jaguars will host Xavier at the West Indy Racquet Club on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 5 p.m.
Last weekend, the Jaguars opened their season with a 6-1 loss to Toledo and a 7-0 loss to Purdue, but the matches were much closer than the final outcome.
“We are going into this weekend feeling confident about our team’s ability to compete at a high level. We will play against two teams we are familiar with and look forward to the challenge ahead of us,” head coach
Brandon Currie said.
“Coming off two tough matches last weekend, we have focused a lot of energy on finishing our matches. We set ourselves up to win several matches last weekend, but we were not able to win big points. Moving forward, we realize how much potential this team has, but we have to put all of the pieces together in order to achieve high levels of success.”
Last year, the Jaguars played both the Cougars and the Musketeers on the road with IUPUI defeating SIU-Edwardsville 5-2 in the season opener, before falling to Xavier by an identical 5-2 score in Cincinnati on Feb. 26.
