LORTON, Va. - The IUPUI men's golf team got off to a slow start on Saturday (Sept. 29) and never fully recovered on day one of the two-day CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate, being played at the par-71 Laurel Hill Golf Club this weekend. The Jaguars shot an opening round 324 and sits at 627 after two rounds.

Play will conclude with an 8:30 start on Sunday.

Freshman Bryce Very led the way for the Jaguars on day one, shooting 155 (79-76) in his first career collegiate rounds. Very sits tied for 55th place among the 81-player field heading into Sunday's final round.

Both sophomore Santiago Ruiz and senior Matt Bruce closed business at 157 on Saturday, each shooting 81-76. Junior Rob van de Vin also contributed scoring rounds of 83-75 for his 16-over 158.

Sophomore Cole Adams made his 2012 debut, shooting 167 (84-83) on Saturday. However, Adams was one of just seven players among the field to make an eagle on Saturday, taking advantage of one of the course's shorter par-5's.

Missouri leads the field at 2-under 566 while Delaware is second at 576. Hofstra is third at 582 and Penn and Villanova are tied for fourth. IUPUI is 13 shots back of Drexel and 15 behind Longwood heading into Sunday.

Mizzou's Emilio Cuartero leads the field after shooting 4-under 138 and Delaware's Ben Conroy is second. Missouri's Jace Long and Hofstra's Jonathan Farber were the only two other players to shoot par or better through 36 holes.
