INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s tennis team kept its conference record perfect after picking up a 6-1 win over Western Illinois Saturday afternoon in Macomb, Ill.

IUPUI took the doubles point winning at the No.2 spot with Joel Modesitt and Nick Volz and the No. 3 position with Deon Shafer and Louis Sacks, despite having its top duo of #Patrick O’Neill and Luke Bielawski# fall by an 8-7 decision.

Following the doubles matches, the Jaguars capitalized on the momentum gained from doubles action despite suffering a setback at the No. 1 singles spot.

After Volz fell at the top position, his teammates picked him up with straight-set victories at spots 2-5. It all started with Ivan Mojsejev capturing a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the two spot, while Chase Emerson added a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the three position to put IUPUI a point away from victory.

Needing one point for a victory, the bottom half of the order didn’t waste any time determining the outcome as Shafer, Sacks, and Modesitt won at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions, respectively, to close out the 6-1 win.

IUPUI is back in action on Friday, April 13, when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on in-state rival IPFW. The regular-season finale against the Mastodons will determine the Summit League regular-season champion.
