SPRINGBORO, Ohio - Playing for the third time in as many days, the IUPUI men's tennis team came up on the shortend of a 5-2 decision in a non-conference match at Wright State inside the South Regency Tennis Center. The Jaguars began the weekend with Summit League wins over UMKC and Oral Roberts prior to Sunday's defeat.
WSU (9-2) set the tone by collecting a tight doubles point with wins at the number two and three spots. The tandem of senior
Luke Bielawski and rookie Patrick O'Neill won an 8-5 decision at the top spot over Jamison Clark and Hayden Joblin, but the Raiders won the other two matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, three of the six matches came down to a decisive third set. Wright State was convincing at the top of the lineup, beating the Jags in the top three spots despite senior
Ivan Mojsejev splitting sets at No. 2 against Hayden Joblin.
Junior
Nick Volz dropped a 6-3, 6-3 tussle with Martin Arguello and redshirt sophomore
Deon Shafer fell to Lauri Makikalli 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3.
The Jaguars' continued to show their depth though as Chicago State-transfer
Armaan Choudhary rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Michal Lyzwa. Freshman
Louis Sacks also came from behind to win at No. 6 over Ricardo Pineda, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
IUPUI will return to action on Mar. 10 when the Jaguars head to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to take on No. 68 Middle Tennessee. That match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m..
