INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s tennis team returns home to host its final two home matches of the season this weekend beginning on Friday, March 2, against Oral Roberts, before taking on reigning Summit League Tournament Champion UMKC on Saturday, March 3.
Both matches will be played at the West Indy Racquet Club with the match against the Golden Eagles set for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, and the contest against the Kangaroos is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Jags enter the week with a 4-10 overall record, but three of those losses have come against ranked teams and head coach
Brandon Currie believes that the tough schedule should help IUPUI entering conference play this weekend.
“We have played an extremely demanding schedule to start the spring season and we want to compete against the best competition to prepare us for conference play,” Currie said. “Getting the opportunity to compete against Big Ten, SEC, and Big East schools shows what level your team is capable of competing at and what areas are necessary for improvement. We have already played three nationally ranked teams and competed at an extremely high level. The guys are very focused and have worked extremely hard to get to this point.”
IUPUI has received solid production from the middle of its lineup as of late evidenced by
Deon Shafer and
Ivan Mojsejev capturing the past two Summit League Player of the Week honors.
Oral Roberts enters the weekend with a 1-7 record and is coming off back-to-back 7-0 losses to Liberty and Wichita State last weekend.
The Kangaroos are 0-5 entering the weekend, but similar to the Jaguars they have played a challenging schedule to this point with two of their five losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 75 nationally.
