ROCKLAND, Ill. – The IUPUI men's tennis team bounced back from a pair of losses on Friday (Feb. 17), to pick up two wins on Saturday (Feb. 18) overall Valparaiso and Chicago State.
 
The wins improved the Jags overall record to 4-7 on the season.
 
IUPUI vs. Valparaiso -
 
In the opener against Valparaiso, the Jags captured a tightly contested doubles point to take the early lead. The tandem of Thomas Gans and Deon Shafer cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to put the Jags a doubles win away from picking up the point. Both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches were tight and it took a tiebreaker for Luke Bielawski and Patrick O'Neill to defeat Valparaiso's top tandem, but the duo prevailed 9-8 (9-7) to secure the doubles point for the Jags.
 
In singles action, Deon Shafer and Nick Volz picked up 6-2, 6-2 victories at the No. 6 and No. 1 spots, respectively, pushing IUPUI to a 3-0 lead.
 
It did not take long for IUPUI to capture the victory as Chase Emerson was next to finish winning his No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Ivan Mojsejev added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles to round out the IUPUI scoring.
 
Both Bielawski and Joel Modesitt each fell just short of victories at the No. 2 and 3 spots falling by a 10-8 and 11-9 margin, respectively, in third set tiebreakers.

IUPUI vs. Chicago State –
 
Coming off its 5-2 win over the Crusaders, IUPUI closed out its grueling weekend with a 7-0 win over Chicago State in Chicago.
 
IUPUI's top doubles tandem of O'Neill and Bielawski captured a win at the top of the doubles lineup, which proved to be the toughest match of the three. O'Neill and Bielawski downed the Cougars top duo, 9-8 (4), while Gans and Shafer and #Louis Sacks# and #Armaan Choudhary# won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to sweep the doubles matches for the Jags.
 
In singles action, IUPUI took all six matches in straight sets with Bielawski, Modesitt and Mojsejev winning at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions.
 
Shafer and Choudhary won at No. 4 and 5, while Sacks picked up his first win in singles play as a Jaguar with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
