ROCKFORD, ILL. – The IUPUI men’s tennis team opened a busy two-day, four-match stretch with losses to Wisconsin-Green Bay and Northern Illinois Friday evening in Rockford, Ill.
After the Jags dropped a 5-2 decision to the Phoenix early on Friday in Chicago, the Jags moved to Rockford, Ill., to take on the Huskies.
NIU took the doubles point winning the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, only one match went to a third-set tiebreaker. At the No. 3 slot,
Chase Emerson and Roman Turtygin went back and forth with Emerson winning the first set, 7-6, before Turtygin rallied for a 6-1 second-set win. In the tiebreaker, neither player could shake one another until a late break put Emerson over the edge giving him the 15-13 win.
The Jags other win in singles came at the No. 6 spot where
Armaan Choudhary stepped in and delivered a 6-1, 6-1, victory.
Unfortunately for the Jags, they dropped straight-set decisions at the No.1 spot, No. 2 spot, No. 4 spot, and No. 5 spot closing out the 5-2 win for Northern Illinois.
