ST. LOUIS – The IUPUI men’s tennis team got back to its winning ways defeating Saint Louis, 6-1, Saturday evening snapping a four-match losing skid for the Jaguars.
 
“It was a great team effort tonight against Saint Louis. We came out fired up for doubles and it carried into singles,” said head coach Brandon Currie. “We showed what we are capable of and beat a good team today.”
 
Currie shuffled two of his doubles teams around and it paid dividends for the Jaguars. In his first action as a Jaguar, Luke Bielawski teamed up with #Patrick O’Neill# at No. 1 doubles and the duo cruised to an 8-1 win.
 
The win at No. 1 doubles was off-set by a loss at No. 2 doubles, but the team of Thomas Gans and Deon Shafer won a tightly contested No. 3 doubles match, 9-8, securing the doubles point for IUPUI.
 
In singles action, the matches were close from top to bottom, but the Jaguars emerged victorious in five of the six matches.
 
Nick Volz opened things up at the No. 1 spot with a three-set win, which included a third-set tiebreaker win to get a key point at the top of the lineup.
 
Bielawski proceeded to record a straight sets win at No. 2 singles, his first singles win in an IUPUI uniform, while Ivan Mojsejev and Deon Shafer also added straight-set victories at the No.4 and No. 6 slot, respectively.
 
The last point came from Joel Modesitt at No. 5 singles as he overcame a 7-5 first-set loss with a 6-4 second-set win, before closing the match out with a convincing 6-1 third-set win to stamp shut the 6-1 victory.
 
The Jaguars are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 12, when they head to South Bend, Ind., to take on No. 30 Notre Dame.
