  • Belmont has played two home games this season and is 1-1 in those games defeating Binghamton, 66-47, while losing to Chattanooga, 84-54.
  • Jordan Coleman leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging a double-double at 10.5 ppg and 10.3 rpg.
  • The other double-figure scorer for the Bruins is Alyssa Visbeen, who averages 10.2 ppg.
  • Through six games, Belmont is shooting 38.5 percent from the floor compared to 37.7 percent for its opponents, but it is being outrebounded, 40.2 to 35.5.
  • Additionally, the Bruins opponents have been to the free throw line 74 more times already this season and have made 24 more free throws than Belmont has attempted.

THE SERIES WITH THE BRUINS
  • Tuesday will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools.

LAST TIME OUT ...
  • IUPUI was looking for its third straight win against an in-state opponent, but the Jaguars struggled from the floor shooting 31.7 percent (19-of-60), compared to 47.6 percent (25-of-53) for Indiana, resulting in a 60-49 defeat Friday (Nov. 23) evening at Assembly Hall.
  • The loss dropped the Jags to 3-2 overall, while the Hoosiers improved to 4-1.
  • DeAirra Goss was the lone Jag in double figures scoring 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while Aulani Sinclair led three double-figure Hoosiers’ scorers with 20 points.
  • After committing 30 turnovers in its win over Indiana State on Tuesday, IUPUI committed just 14 turnovers and outrebounded Indiana, 38-35, but the Jags poor shooting proved to be the difference.
  • The Jaguars got off to a slow start hitting just one of their first six shots while committing three turnovers as Indiana took a 13-4 lead five minutes in.
  • With Shawnece Teague and Katie Comello each hitting a pair of free throws in a 39 second span, IUPUI was able to close within seven, 17-10, with 12:03 to play, but a 7-0 Hoosiers run over the next four minutes widened the IU advantage to 24-12 at the 7:56 mark.
  • A Kerah Nelson jumper brought the Jaguars deficit back into single digits at nine, 27-18, with 4:38 to go in the opening half, but an 11-3 Indiana run to close the opening 20 minutes put the Jags in a 17-point hole, 38-21, heading into halftime.
  • Out of the break, Goss scored the Jags first four points of the second half bringing the deficit to 13 just three and half minutes into the second half, but a 10-0 IU run over the next 4:47 pushed the Hoosiers cushion to 48-25.
  • The Jaguars never were able to make a run until the final four minutes when an 11-0 spurt courtesy of three Nicole Rogers triples and a Clara Mitchell lay-up brought the Jags within 11, 60-49, but the run was too late as Indiana won by that 11-point margin.
  • In addition to Goss, Rogers scored all nine of her points in the final three minutes and Teague chipped in seven points and four rebounds off the bench.

FRESHMEN IMPACT
  • It hasn’t taken long for the Jaguars’ three true freshmen to make an impact this season.
  • Shawnece Teague, Akilah Sims and Nicole Rogers are each averaging over 5.0 ppg and each have excelled in their roles.
  • In 12.2 minutes per game, Sims averages 5.5 and provides energy, especially on the offensive glass. Sims is third on the team in offensive rebounds with 10 (2.0 oreb/g).
  • Teague has been extremely efficient on the block for the Jags connecting on 11-of-16 shot attempts (68.8 percent), while grabbing 3.4 rpg and rejecting 1.6 shots per game in 12.8 minutes per contest.
  • Finally, Rogers has been the team’s three-point specialist off the bench connecting on eight three’s in five games.
  • Rogers has hit three or more three’s twice this season and is hitting 50.0 percent of her attempts from behind-the-arc.

SECOND-HALF EFFORT
  • Through five games this season, the Jags have been a second-half team outscoring their opponents 212-161 in the final 20 minutes compared to 161-158 in the first half.
  • The biggest reason for the improvement from the first half to the second half has been the defensive effort.
  • Despite its shooting improvement from 40.0 percent to 47.2 percent from the first half to the second half, IUPUI has dropped its opponents shooting percentage from 45.5 percent in the opening 20 minutes to 37.2 in the second half.
  • Additionally, the Jags five opponents have combined to connect on 44.0 percent of its three-point attempts in the early going compared to only 26.8 percent after intermission.
  • Offensively, the Jags scoring attack has been more balanced in the second half this season. In first halves, DeAirra Goss and Kerah Nelson have combined to score 81 of the team’s 161 points (50.3 percent).
  • In the second half, Goss and Nelson have combined to score just 24.5 percent (52 of 212) of the team’s points.
  • In the final 20 minutes, Goss leads the way averaging 7.4 points, while Katie Comello is second averaging 5.6 points. Nelson is eighth on the team averaging 3.0 points in the second half.

BENCH SUPPORT
  • The Jaguars have played at least 12 players in all five games this season, and the depth on the bench has given the Jaguars fresh legs throughout the game.
  • When IUPUI has outscored its opponents in bench points, the Jaguars are 3-1.
  • In each of the wins, the Jaguars have been led in bench scoring by a different player.
  • In the opener, the Jags bench outscored Grace College, 50-21, with Nicole Rogers scoring 14 points.
  • In the win over Valparaiso, the Jaguars bench outscored the Crusaders, 32-15, with Nevena Markovic scoring 10 points off the bench.
  • Finally, IUPUI outscored Indiana State, 39-11, off the bench with Katie Comello and Akilah Sims scoring 16 points and 11 points, respectively.
  • Through four games, the Jaguars bench is outscoring their opponents bench, 31.8 to 18.8.

LEADING THE WAY
  • In her first five games in an IUPUI uniform, junior DeAirra Goss has been the Jaguars’ go-to scorer.
  • The transfer from Western Michigan has led IUPUI in scoring in four of five games and she is averaging 16.4 ppg, and is scoring at an extremely efficient rate. She has hit on 31-of-56 field goal attempts (55.4 percent) and is scoring.
  • Goss scored a season-high 24 points in her IUPUI debut against Grace College, before adding 22 points in a four-point loss at Wright State on Nov. 14.
  • By scoring over 20 points in her first two games, she became the first IUPUI player since Tiffany Kyser, during the 2002-03 season, to score 20 or more points in back-to-back games to start a season.
