Final Standings (.pdf)
LEMONT, Ill. - The IUPUI men's golf team made continued improvements over the course of the John Dallio Memorial as the Jaguars climbed to a ninth-place finish among the 15-team field. IUPUI finished the event at 929 (323-301-305), just nine shots back of Summit League foe Oakland, which finished in eighth.
Marquette won the team title at 905 while host DePaul was second at 910.
"We started slow, which has been a Jaguars' tradition that has to end," IUPUI head coach
John Andrews said. "It wasn't good, but it was better, which leads me to think that it's going to continue to get better.
"The last two rounds were better however, I don't think we're going to win tournaments unless Rob and Santiago play well."
Freshman
Austin Winings took advantage of the course's shorter length and led the way at 228 (78-73-77), tying for 15th among the 81-player field.
"I felt confident in my ball striking and in my ability to keep grinding and making a lot of pars," Winings said. "That's what I usually do, make a lot of pars.
"I'm not one of the longest hitters out there. I'm probably one of the shortest hitters on the team, but on this course, you have to hit it pretty straight and keep it in the fairway."
Senior
Matt Bruce finished tied for 23rd at 231 (82-76-73) while sophomore
Santiago Ruiz shot a 238 (82-72-84).
Bruce fired an eagle on his second hole of the day, reaching the 518-yard par-5 No. 5 in two before rolling in the eagle putt. Ruiz's second round 72 tied for the lowest round by a Jaguars' player this season, matching
Rob van de Vin's second round effort at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
On Sunday, van de Vin closed the Dallio Memorial at 239 (81-82-76) while freshman
Tyler Davis shot 242 (83-80-79).
Davis became the fourth IUPUI freshman to play in the Jaguars lineup this season, joining Winings,
Jordan Lenard and
Bryce Very.
"This fall, I'm trying to find out who my best five guys are. We're working on continuing to get better as a team."
The Jaguars entered play with just one win through two tournaments before finishing ahead of six schools on Sunday.
IUPUI will continue a busy stretch as the Jaguars will play in the Butler Fall Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club on the city's near Northside, beginning on Monday.
