OMAHA, Neb. – Summit League play resumes for the IUPUI volleyball team on Friday, Oct. 26, when it travels to Omaha, Neb., to face Omaha at 8 p.m. ET.
IUPUI stepped away from conference play on Tuesday when it traveled north to Valparaiso, Ind., to take on the Crusaders, but the Jags could not return home with a win as Valparaiso went the distance to beat the Jags, 3-2.
IUPUI sits in second place in the Summit League standings at 9-3, a half-game behind Fort Wayne. The Jags have won four of their last five conference matches heading into the weekend, and earlier this season they took the first meeting against Omaha, 3-0.
With four conference matches remaining, IUPUI ranks atop the conference in kills per set (14.58), hitting percentage (.231), assists (13.67) and digs per set (19.49), while ranking second in blocks (2.40) in conference-only matches.
Moriah Fair leads the team and is seventh in the conference in kills averaging 3.60 kps, while freshman
Kaitlyn Hickey is 10th in kills at 3.16 kps.
Hickey is making a great case for Summit League Freshman of the Year honors by not only ranking in the Top 10 in the conference in kills, but she also ranks 10th in service aces (0.27) and seventh in digs (4.60). Hickey is the only player ranked in the Top-9 in digs in conference-only matches that is not a libero.
Additionally,
Bethany Fogler ranks fifth in the league in hitting percentage hitting at a .314 clip, while sitting second in blocks at 1.40 bps.
Beth Howard leads the Jags and is also second in the conference in digs at 5.53 dps.
The Mavericks are 1-9 in their first season in the Summit League and are led offensively by Natalie Ebke’s 2.72 kps.
Omaha is the top serving teams in the conference averaging 1.46 sa/s. Amy Roberts is averaging 0.32 sa/s to sit atop the conference rankings in aces, while teammate Bailey Baxter is fourth at 0.31 sa/s.
Defensively, Megan Schmale ranks fifth in the league in blocks (1.08 bps), while Roberts anchors the back row defense with 4.37 dps.
