INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI closes out its quick road trip on Monday, Jan. 9 when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on Summit League and in-state foe IPFW. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and Scott McCauley will have the call on IUPUIJags.com beginning around 6:55 p.m.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
  • IPFW comes into Monday’s game with a 5-10 record following a 73-54 win over Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 7. The win snapped a six-game losing skid.
  • The Mastodons have three players scoring in double figures led by Erin  Murphy’s 13.5 ppg. Seniors Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese are averaging 13.2 and 12.7 ppg, respectively.
  • Boese is one of the top 3-point shooters in the conference  shooting 37.1 percent from deep and recently became the Summit League career leader in 3-point field goals.
  • IPFW averages 61.6 ppg compared to 71.3 ppg for its opponents.
  • The Mastodons allow their opponents to shoot 43.9 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from three.
  • IPFW averages only 8.5 apg compared to 15.5  turnovers per game.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST IPFW
  • Monday’s meeting between the Mastodons and the Jaguars will be the 20th meeting all-time between the conference foes.
  • IPFW owns a slight 10-9 lead in the series, but IUPUI is 5-3 when playing in Fort Wayne.
  • The Mastodons have won four consecutive meetings and the Jags last win came by a score of 61-59 on March 8, 2009. The four straight wins are the longest in series history.
  • IUPUI’s last road win in the series came back on Jan. 24, 2009.

A LOOK BACK AT THE LAST GAME
  • Trailing by as many as 19 points in the second half, IUPUI orchestrated a furious comeback and clawed back within three points, but the Jaguars couldn’t get over the hump as it fell at Oakland, 54-50, Saturday afternoon in Summit League action.
  • IUPUI (6-10; 1-3 Summit) outscored the Golden Grizzlies 33-20 in the second half behind Emily Phillips’ 10 second-period points, but Bethany Watterworth proved to be too much accounting for 27 of OU’s 54 points.
  • Phillips scored a career-high 16 points on 8-of-17 shooting and was the only IUPUI player to score in double figures. The Jaguars three leading scorers - Kerah Nelson, Katie Comello, and Nevena Markovic - came into the game averaging 36.0 ppg in conference action, but the trio struggled shooting and combined to score 23 points.
  • Both teams committed careless turnovers and shot poorly early, but the Jaguars were able to stay within a bucket at the eight-minute mark following a Dawn Luster lay-up that cut the Jaguars deficit to 18-15.
  • While forcing the Golden Grizzlies to struggle from the floor early, Oakland began to get hot from the floor thanks in part to Watterworth.
  • Watterworth buried a three to push the Oakland lead to six points, 21-6, and scored seven more points during a 15-0 run that widened the OU lead to 33-15 with 2:52 remaining in the half.
  • A Phillips lay-up with 1:51 on the clock snapped the Oakland run, but the Golden Grizzlies managed to tack on a free throw in the final minute that doubled up the Jags, 34-17, which would be the score entering halftime.
  • Watterworth equaled IUPUI’s scoring output by herself in the opening half scoring 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-4 shooting from three.
  • The Jags managed to shoot just 24.1 percent (7-of-29) in the opening 20 minutes, including 10 percent (1-of-10) from three, compared to 50.0 percent shooting (13-of-26) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from behind-the-arc for the Golden Grizzlies.
  • Needing defensive stops to help spur a run, the Jaguars hit just one of their first seven attempts from the field to start the second half, but Oakland managed to only increase its halftime lead by two points, 38-19, at the 15:06 mark.
  • However, the Jags responded hitting eight of their next 12 attempts from the floor and held the Golden Grizzlies scoreless for nearly seven minutes leading IUPUI on a 16-0 run that trimmed its deficit to three points, 38-35, with 9:00 to play. Phillips was the catalyst during the run scoring half of the points, including six in transition.
  • After 17 first-half points, Watterworth went scoreless for the opening 13:11 before scoring 11 of Oakland’s next 12 points. Despite Watterworth heating up, IUPUI used a pair of conventional three-point plays and a triple from Katie Comello to offset Watterworth’s scoring and keep its deficit at three points, 49-46, with 3:45 to play.
  • Down the stretch, the Jaguars had a few opportunities to pull even but misfired and an offensive put-back by Victoria Lipscomb with 30 seconds to play proved to be the dagger as Oakland held on for a 54-50 victory.

RUNNING THE SHOW
  • Emily Phillips had a career game in her first conference road game against Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 7.
  • Phillips scored a career high 16 points on a career-high eight made field goals and almost helped the Jaguars overcome a 19-point second-half deficit.
  • Phillips also dished out four assists while not committing  a turnover.
  • It marked the first game this season where Phillips did not make a turnover.

RECORD NIGHT
  • In its first game of 2012, IUPUI had a record night against Trine University.
  • After Trine scored the first basket of the game, IUPUI responded on a 48-2 run from the 19:14 mark to the 3:53 mark. Included in that run was a 36-0 run from the 15:39 mark to the 3:53 mark.
  • In that first half, IUPUI set a new school record for field goal percentage in a half shooting 71.9 percent (23-of-32).
  • The 71.9 first-half field goal shooting percentage beat IUPUI’s 71.4 shooting percentage against Oral Roberts on Feb. 9, 2002.
  • The Jaguars allowed just 24 points in the game, setting a new record for points allowed since joining the Division I ranks. IUPUI allowed just seven points in the first 20 minutes.
  • The 55-point margin of victory is the largest since joining the Division I ranks and is the fourth largest in program history.
  • The largest margin of victory came in 1988, when IUPUI defeated Trinity by 77 points (109-32) on Dec. 9.

WHERE THE RUN STANDS ...
  • In IUPUI’s last game, the Jaguars gave up a basket on their first possession and proceeded to go the next 35:07 on a 77-15 run (62 points).
  • The 62-point run is the longest in the country this season besting the likes of No. 1 Baylor, who went on a 91-31 run (60 points) against Chattanooga.
  • Other notable, lengthy runs include Connecticut going on an 80-25 run (55 points) against Towson and Kentucky going on a 66-15 run (51 points) to open its game against Jacksonville State.
  • TCU has posted the fifth-longest run of 50 points as the Horned Frogs went on a 79-29 run (50 points) against Houston.

APPROACHING A MILESTONE
  • Entering Monday’s game against IPFW, Kerah Nelson is approaching a career milestone.
  • The junior forward from St. Petersburg, Fla., is averaging 15.6 ppg this season and currently has 962 points for her career.
  • Nelson is 38 points away from becoming the 20th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points and just the fifth player to do so playing their entire career in the Division I era.
  • Nelson also would become the fifth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone as a junior.
