INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams continue their preparation for the 2012 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships this weekend when they travel to the site of the conference championships to take on Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 28. The meet begins at 2 p.m. at the OU Aquatics Center.
“We’re excited to go up to Oakland and compete this weekend. This will be a good test to see where we are with three weeks to go until the conference championships,” said head coach
Matt Bos. “We only have a handful of athletes on our roster that have competed up there, so this will be a good opportunity to get familiar with the pool before the Summit League meet.”
The women’s team is coming off a 4-0 week last week posting wins over Xavier and Saint Louis and Summit League foes Western Illinois and Eastern Illinois.
Margaret Barber set a new school record in the 1,000 freestyle on Friday, Jan. 20, shattering the previous school record by 16 seconds.
Chen Ni added a pair of first-place finishes in the one- and three-meter dives, and her one-meter score was a season-best and the top mark in the Summit League this season.
With the four wins this past weekend, the women’s team improved to 7-0, setting a new school record for wins in a season.
The men’s team finished 1-3 last week against some high quality competition. The Jags fell to Xavier and Saint Louis on Friday, while picking up a win over Western Illinois. The next day, IUPUI came up short against Eastern Illinois.
The men enter the weekend with a 3-3 record on the season.
