IUPUI vs. WESTERN ILLINOIS
INDIANAPOLIS – In a match featuring two of the Summit League’s top three teams, the IUPUI men’s tennis team jumped out to an early lead over Western Illinois, but could not hold on as the Leathernecks used five wins in singles play to down the Jaguars, 5-2.
The win improved the Leathernecks to 4-0 in conference action, while IUPUI suffered its second conference loss as it fell to 3-2.
After having their No. 1 doubles duo suffer a tight two-point loss in a tiebreaker, the Jaguars used some inspired play from their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles tandems to take the momentum.
In singles play, however, Western Illinois’ depth proved to be too much to overcome. After Mojsejev lost a tough three-set match, Volz split two tight sets against his opponent before winning his third-set tiebreaker, 10-4, placing the Jags back on top 2-1.
From that point on, the Leathernecks took the No. 3 through No. 6 matches to pick up the 5-2 road win.

IUPUI vs. NORTHERN ILLINOIS
INDIANAPOLIS – In its second match of the day, IUPUI struggled at the top of the lineup and eventually fell to Northern Illinois, 4-2.
The Jags and Huskies only played singles matches due to the lengthiness of IUPUI’s first match of the day against Western Illinois.
Mojsejev and Volz could not get into a flow in their singles matches as each fell in straight sets giving the Jags two losses at the top of the order.
Looking for a win to reverse the tides, Modesitt was in a tight battle with Roman Turtygin that needed a third set to determine the winner. Turtygin picked up an important break in the third set leading to a 7-5 win over Modesitt, putting the Huskies just one win away from victory.
With their backs against the wall,
Chase Emerson helped lead a Jags charge beginning with a pair of 6-3 wins to get the Jaguars on the board with their first point of the match. After losing his first set, 6-4,
Bren Vasalakis followed Emerson’s lead and bounced back with a 6-3 win, before winning the final set 6-1, inching the Jags even closer at 3-2.
However, in the final match,
Armando Diaz could not overcome some strong play from Bryant Poggensee-Wei and Diaz fell 6-3, 7-6, giving NIU the 4-2 win.

IUPUI vs. CENTENARY
INDIANAPOLIS – After two tough losses on Saturday, the Jaguars looked to bounce back on Sunday against Summit League foe Centenary and did so in a big way with a 6-1 victory over the Gents.
The win upped the Jaguars record to 4-2 in league play.
The match got off to a great start with Vasalakis and
Joe Hammond downing Centenary’s top duo, 8-5. Volz and Modesitt continued their impressive teamwork in conference action with an 8-2 win in No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point, but Mojsejev and Emerson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
Mojsejev looked sharp in No. 1 singles action cruising to identical 6-0 wins, inching the Jags closer to their fourth Summit League win.
Volz faced a little more resistance than Mojsejev after splitting his first two sets, but he was able to take an early lead and never look back in the third set en route to a 6-2 third-set victory.
Unlike Mojsejev and Volz, Modesitt got off to a shaky start in his singles match, dropping the opening set, 6-1. However, following a 6-2 second-set win, Modesitt won a close third-set tiebreaker, 10-7, to clinch the win.
Emerson and Vasalakis each picked up straight-set wins in No. 4 and No. 5 singles action, respectively, while Centenary’s lone point came in No. 6 singles action.
The Jags return the court on Wednesday, April 13, when they head up Interstate-65 to take on Valparaiso at 4 p.m.
