MILWAUKEE – After dropping a tough match to Marquette on Saturday, the IUPUI men’s tennis team tried to salvage a weekend split but fell to Wisconsin-Green Bay, 7-0, Sunday afternoon.

 

The loss dropped the Jaguars to 1-5 on the young season.

 

Joe Hammond and Bren Vasalakis opened at No. 1 doubles but ran into the tandem of Craig Cox and Fabian Gogolin who put forth a fine effort in capturing an 8-2 win.

 

With Dan Klingenberg and Ivan Mojsejev dropping an 8-1 decision in No. 2 doubles, Green Bay had secured the doubles point, but the duo of Joel Modesitt and Nick Volz continued to battle in search of winning the No. 3 doubles match and persevered with an 8-7 win.

 

Unfortunately for IUPUI, the Jags could not get anything going in singles play as Volz, Mojsejev, Modesitt, and Klingenberg each fell in straight sets.

 

In No. 5 singles play, Chase Emerson got off to a good start winning the first set, 6-4, but Emerson was slowed down by Gogolin in the second set as a 6-2 setback sent the match to a decisive third set. In the third set, it was a break by Gogolin that proved to be the difference as he went on the beat Emerson, 6-4.

 

Hammond fell behind in his No. 6 singles match dropping the first set, 6-0, but rebounded in a big way with a 7-6 second-set win to even the match at one set apiece. However, a 6-2 third-set defeat closed out the 7-0 win for Green Bay.

 

The Jags are back in action next weekend when they head out of town to meet Valparaiso and Bradley.
