EAST LANSING, Mich. - Playing its first of five opponents from the Big Ten and BIG EAST Conferences this season, the IUPUI men's tennis team was swept at Michigan State in its spring opener on Saturday, 7-0. Sophomores

Nick Volz highlighted singles play, splitting sets before losing their matches in third set pro sets.
Michigan State (1-0) made quick work of the doubles point, dropping just 10 games in the three matches combined to jump out 1-0. Modesitt and Volz had the tightest doubles match at No. 3 but eventually succumbed to Denis Bogatov and Mat Nelson, 8-6.
In singles play, Modesitt looked good early, claiming a hard fought first set 7-6 (0) over Christian Roehmer at the No. 5 spot. Roehmer rebounded to win the second set 6-3 and the match with a 10-1 pro set victory. At No. 2, Modesitt's doubles partner Volz also enjoyed some success, rebounding from a 6-0 loss to take the second set 6-4. The Evansville-native loss the third, 15-13 in just his third-ever match at the No. 2 spot.

IUPUI will return to action next Saturday when it plays both Purdue and Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Jaguars are slated to play the Boilermakers at 9:30 a.m. in West Lafayette and the Hoosiers in Bloomington at 7:00 p.m..
