INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI Athletics Department and Head Softball Coach Maggie Calcaterra announced the signings of Danielle Minchin (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) and Casie Morlock (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) to National Letters of Intent to join the Jaguars in the fall of 2010. The duo becomes IUPUI’s eighth and ninth signees for next season.
"I am really looking forward to working with Danielle, Casie and the other players we have coming in next year," Calcaterra said. "They are a very talented group who will place their mark on IUPUI softball."
Minchin, a 5-foot switch hitting outfielder, batted .407 with nine doubles and 37 runs scored for Greenfield Central as a junior, earning Indianapolis Star All-East Team and First Team All-District honors. She has helped G-C back-to-back Cougar Classic and Hoosier Heritage titles. In addition, she helped Greenfield-Central to the 2009 sectional title.
She batted .434 as a sophomore earning First Team All-County honors and was a .473 hitter as a freshman. This season, Minchin’s bat has helped power G-C to a 12-3 start and a No. 11 state ranking.
"Danielle is a very quick player that is going to help us both offensively and defensively," Calcaterra said. "More importantly, she is going to be a threat on the bases and help add another dimension to our offense."
Morlock, a 5-foot-7 right-handed hitting utility player, has earned seven varsity letters in softball and volleyball at Pendleton Heights High School. She’s earned the team’s Spirit Award in each of the past three seasons and has opened this season batting .417 in her first 11 games, playing primarily third base and outfield. She was a .306 hitter in 2009, driving in nine runs and scoring six times. She intends on majoring in nursing at IUPUI.
She becomes the third member of the Indiana Gators in next year’s signing class, joining Lindsey Richards and Nikki Thomas.
"Casie is a very fundamentally sound player who is very versatile. She’ll be able to assist us in many different aspects and will add quality depth to the squad," Calcaterra said. "She is disciplined at the plate and is an all around great player."
IUPUI remains in the hunt for a Summit League Tournament berth and graduates just three seniors from this year’s squad. The Jags will begin a three-game series at Centenary on Friday.
