SOFTBALL SPLITS FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER AT DETROIT MERCY

The Jags and Titans will close out the three-game series with a single game at 12:00 PM tomorrow (Saturday, April 4)

DETROIT - The IU Indy Jaguars split a Horizon League doubleheader at Detroit Mercy on Friday afternoon, falling 11-3 in six innings in game one before bouncing back with an 18-12 win in a high-scoring second game.

In the opener, the Jaguars struck first behind a solo home run from Paige McPhearson in the first inning and added another run in the second on an RBI single from Adeline Blackwell. However, Detroit Mercy responded with a four-run second inning and never looked back, adding three runs in the fourth and continuing to build separation late.

McPhearson and Callie Dickerson each homered for IU Indy, but the Titans totaled 11 runs on 11 hits to secure the run-rule victory in game one. Blackwell totaled two hits in game one to lead the Jags at the plate.

IU Indy's offense erupted in game two, plating 18 runs on 15 hits to even the series. The Jaguars used a three-run third inning to take control early and broke the game open with a four-run fifth that included a homer from Dickerson and a three-run blast from Ana Powell.

Despite building a large lead, the Jaguars had to withstand an 11-run sixth inning from Detroit Mercy that briefly gave the lead to the Titans at 12-11. IU Indy answered in the seventh, scoring seven runs to regain control and secure the win.

Piper Stephens and Alexa Holman each totaled three hits in game two while Dickerson and Powell each added three RBI. Clara Phariss earned the win in the circle for the Jags.
