KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Entering Friday's match against Centenary, the IUPUI men's tennis team held the fourth spot in The Summit League standings. The Jaguars did nothing to relinquish the final spot in The Summit League Tournament, routing the Gents, 4-0, at the Plaza Tennis Center courts.
IUPUI (5-16, 3-2 Summit) rolled through the Centenary lineup, as
Daniel Klingenberg and
Jorge Yunes recorded the first win for the Jaguars with an 8-1 blitzing of their opponents at No. 1 doubles.
Nick Volz and
Deon Shafer were quick to clinch the doubles point for the Jags after an 8-4 win at No. 2.
For good measure,
Taylor Tunis and
Joel Modesitt took the win at No. 3, 8-7, overcoming their opponents, 7-5, in the tiebreak.
Volz took his strong play into singles, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1, romp at No. 4.
Rounding into shape after an injury midway through the season, Klingenberg followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2, and Yunes clinched the match for the Jaguars with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
IUPUI will be wrap up their Summit League slate on Saturday, April 10, when they meet Western Illinois in their second match of the cluster. A win will clinch a Summit League Tournament berth for the Jaguars. The match begins at 9:00 a.m. CT in Kansas City.
