SHREVEPORT, La. - Having won seven of their past eight games and ascended to No. 22 in this week's Mid-Major Top 25, the IUPUI basketball team will return to action on Thursday night when it takes on Centenary (8-16, 3-10 Summit) inside the Gold Dome at 8:00 p.m. EST. Pregame coverage will begin at approximately 7:50 on IUPUIJags.com.
IUPUI (17-8, 10-2 Summit) is coming off its best defensive effort of the season as it dispatched Western Illinois, 70-42 inside Western Hall on Saturday night. Senior
Robert Glenn scored a game-high 27 points and sophomore
Alex Young tallied 20 as the Jaguars rolled to victory. The 42 points allowed were the fewest by an IUPUI foe this season and the Jags outscored the Fighting Leathernecks 26-6 off turnovers.
Leading by 14 at halftime, a 13-1 run to start the second half broke the game open and turned the final 10 minutes into garbage time. The lead grew to 36 before some late WIU threes trimmed the final margin. Glenn hit 8-of-10 shots from the floor and Young was 8-of-11 as IUPUI hit 59.5 percent overall. Junior
Leroy Nobles added 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting and classmate
John Ashworth handed out 10 assists against just one turnover.
David Nurse led WIU with 17 points, including five treys.
IUPUI is 10-3 all-time against Centenary including a 74-58 victory in The Jungle earlier this season. Young matched his career-high with 29 points in that contest and Nobles scored 18 as the duo combined to splash seven threes. The Jaguars raced out to an 18-point lead in the opening 10 minutes and used a similar run to start the second half to seal the game.
The Jaguars come in as the most efficient offensive team in The Summit, leading the league in both field goal percentage (.496) and three-point percentage (.396) this season. IUPUI's 15.8 assists per game are also tops in the league, as are the 8.9 steals a night.
Glenn is tops in The Summit in scoring at 18.6 ppg while Young is second at 17.9. Glenn is also second in the league in field goal shooting at .586, trailing only teammate
Jon Avery, who comes in hitting .599. Avery has led The Summit in shooting the past two seasons.
