Follow The Jaguars This Weekend
INDIANAPOLIS – With three matches remaining in the 2010 regular season, the IUPUI volleyball team embarks on its final Summit League road trip this weekend when it travels to the state of Michigan, to take on Oakland on Friday, Nov. 5, before crossing back into Indiana to meet in-state rival IPFW on Saturday, Nov. 6. First serve for both matches is set for 7 p.m.
The Jaguars are coming off a 1-2 week last week, including a three-set win over Centenary on Friday, Oct. 29. Against the Ladies,
Brittany Anglemyer posted the second-best single-match hitting percentage in program history hitting at a .786 clip with 11 kills in 14 attempts. Despite not reaching the minimum amount of attempts needed to crack the single-match hitting percentage chart, sophomore
Bethany Fogler went a perfect 8-for-8 en route to a 1.000 hitting percentage against Centenary.
With help from Anglemyer and Fogler, the Jaguars hit a season-best .486 against the Ladies, the third-highest single-game hitting percentage in school history for a three-set match.
In addition to the strong effort in the win over Centenary, the Jaguars hosted their first nationally-ranked team in The Jungle on Tuesday, Oct. 26, when No. 21 Cincinnati came to town and rounded out their three-match week hosting Oral Roberts on Saturday, Oct. 30.
In hosting its first nationally-ranked opponent, IUPUI fell to UC in three sets, before bouncing back with its three-set win over Centenary. The Jaguars carried that momentum into the match against Oral Roberts, capturing the first set 25-19, but the Golden Eagles rallied to win the next three sets to down the Jaguars, 3-1.
For the week, four players averaged over 2.00 kills per set while Anglemyer and Fogler each hit over .300 to lead the squad. In addition to her efficient offensive play, Fogler’s 14 total blocks last week averaged out to 1.40 blocks per set.
IPFW enters the weekend in second place in the Summit League with an 11-3 record, half a game behind current leader North Dakota State. Oakland sits in a tie for third place with Southern Utah as both own a 9-5 conference mark.
Friday’s match against Oakland looks to be a defensive match-up on paper as both the Grizzlies and the Jaguars are ranked in the Top-30 nationally in digs per set. Oakland is paced on the defensive front by Brittany Dunn, who shared Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors last week with South Dakota State’s Shay Birath.
Shari Bernhardt leads the conference and ranks 25th in the country in digs averaging 5.24 per set.
